Hakodate park was built by the urging of the British
consul Richard Youthden in 1873.....the first western
style park in cooperation with citizens in Hokkaido.
Hakodate Park also has a small zoo and amusement
park "Kodomo no Kuni", especially lined old playground
equipment is interesting. Japan's oldest Ferris wheel is
still running here. Little kids would be a good time to fun
More than 40 years ago, Hakodate park had been kept
a couple of lions and bears. At present, there is only
small animals, such as swans, peacocks and deers etc.
The park is crowded wih citizens around the cherry
blossoms bloom in May every year. When you go to a
hot spring "Yachigashira", it might be fun to stop here.
